Burial is the best protection
Burying a submarine cable is one of the most effective ways to protect it. Our burial equipment uses a high pressure water jetting system to cut a trench to the required depth and bury the cable beneath the seabed.
Metco Marine burial tools are among the most effective used for submarine cable burial. They have trenched thousands of kilometres of cable, protecting our clients' networks.
How the spread works
The burial spread is built around a self-propelled trenching support unit, with a crane and winch for handling the trencher, plus the diving gear and tools the job needs.
The trencher fluidises the seabed. It holds the trench open long enough for the cable to sink to the bottom under its own weight, guided by a roller at the end of the trenching sword.
On the surface, a pontoon with 440 HP engines and pumps feeds the trencher through a 6 inch water hose. A separate cable carries the logging sensors and camera. The pontoon is also where navigation is run and burial data is logged.
